An investment in our children is an investment in our future. Our children are worth it!
The Board of Children’s Museum of Cheyenne (CMC) is moving forward with plans to use our current funds to build the first phase of our children’s museum. Our vision has always been to bring a WOW experience to downtown Cheyenne and to be a community catalyst. Our mission is to be a one-of-a-kind place that inspires the love of learning for children and their families through creative, hands-on experiences.
The photo above is our architect’s rendering of the front entrance to our 4400 square foot children’s museum at 1618 O’Neil Avenue. This first phase will give Cheyenne a taste of what a children’s museum is all about. It will offer flexible space for programs, art and makerspace offerings, an outdoor garden and open space, as well as rental options and community gathering spaces. The construction of this first phase allows for a much larger second phase, up to 18,000 square feet in the future. The museum will be built in a shovel-ready open lot downtown owned by Children’s Museum of Cheyenne. Specifically, the property is in the West Edge district and will serve as an economic development driver by completing infrastructure and increasing tourism, all while supporting early childhood learning through Science, Technology, Reading, Relationships, Engineering, Art, and Math (STRREAM).
Our project takes STEM education to an extra level (STRREAM) through hands-on experience, play and, best of all, fun! The STEAMing Across Wyoming train that CMC constructed in 2016, will have a permanent home inside the museum and offer a glimpse of what a train adventure across our state would involve and includes interactive features. We will have additional hands-on interactive exhibits for our future generations. Watch for details coming soon about our groundbreaking event as we get closer to defining our construction timeline. We have completed construction documents and have submitted to the city for the plan review process and permitting. Will Wedemeyer and the team from Studio Red is our architect and we have selected 5R Construction as our contractor.
